Speculation

Just a guess:

Gaeta is the fifth Cylon. He finds out about his Cylonity just before he returns to workin the CIC, just before the Colonial-Rebel forces blow up the Resurrection hub. When he recognizes that he is a Cylon, he realizes that he could be resurrected with a complete leg. But his last chance, his only chance, to become a whole person again is about to be destroyed. He figures this is the last straw -- he's been frakked over by the Colonial civilization for far too long. In the CIC, he unholsters his weapon and points it at his own head, threatening to kill himself unless the attack is called off. The attack is called off, and Gaeta kills himself anyway. Since he's the only one who knows he's a Cylon, everyone things he just snapped and killed himself. Gaeta resurrects on the Cylon ship. Realizing that he can't go back, and feeling that he doesn't want to go back, he joins the 1,4,5 faction against the Colonial-Rebel alliance and becomes their leader.

I was thinking the same thing about Tigh. I figured he might think about rezzing to fix his eye (who knows, maybe his other bodies are in their late 20s like the rest of them, eh? :P )

That would be pretty awesome, actually. Good guess. I can't wait to see what happens, myself. :)

I have this feeling that it's going to turn out to be Laura Roslin.
But if it is her, will she put herself out an airlock?
At any rate I'm with Amber....I can't wait to find out.

Interesting theory, although do the final five have any proof that they would resurrect if they were near a resurrection ship? They may not function the same way as the other models.

I like your theory here, but it assumes that there is another body for Geata to resurrect into. If that is true, then...the plot is "fracked". Only one Cylon knows who the fifth is, and she's boxed at the moment.

It would not, in any case, surprise me that G. is the fifth.

Are we even sure the final five can resurrect? I get the impression the final five are somewhat different from the other human models...perhaps the to the degree that is there is only one of each. There are no copies of the final five.

Time will tell.

I'm going with the theory that none of the final five can resurrect. They are unique. They are themselves the makers of the Cylon race and at least the four Hendrix attuned Cylons have had their prior memories erased. The fifth may remember everything.

I suspect that the Final Five are a third race of people who came FROM Earth at some point. They created the toasters and planted the seeds for the 7.

Other than that I like your basic theory and of course can't wait to see how this all turns out.

But since this has ALL happened before: Hera and Nicholas are Adam and Eve returning to an Earth that, when the landing team stood upon it in the Tomb of Athena, was a verdant green garden.

Earth has been wiped out and the last people off were the Final Five. In their absence, the Planet has renewed itself in preparation for the return of the cylon/human Adam and Eve.

Oh, and good blog!

[Note--I entered this comment twice.]
Who the fifth Cylon turns out to be is, of course, fascinating (to borrow the favorite descriptive of a character from another science fiction series). But that question can't be answered until we understand the origin and purpose of the Final Five. Who created them? What is their purpose? Do they have free will to follow or reject their programming (as some of the other models appear to have done)? Why is the fifth Cylon hidden? Does (s)he know who the four are---in fact is (s)he an omniscient Cylon who knows the answer to all questions? If, at the end of the series, we say "of course, it all makes sense now" Galactica indeed may be the greatest science fiction series ever.

Wow, that is a nice speculation. I have one thought about that.... hasn't he found his spot in the whole vision/final 5 place by being the "opera guy" in the "opera house" aka Galactica. Who really knows, my hubby and I even talked about the actual Galactica being the 5th. Okay that is a reach....

That's very possible. I noticed that they are aiming a lot of attention at his character. In the earlier seasons he seemed less significant.

I was sure it was Dualla (it's all in the name...) until this season when she's only had about two minutes of screen time. Gaeta is seeming a more likely possibility now.

Spiny Norman, apparently Ron Moore has stated that Adama Snr. and Roslin are the two characters who will never turn out to be Cylons. Though he could be lying...

If Gaeta is the final model, well, it would explain his singing. An opera house without a singer? Gots to have a singer.

I like your thought train. Now follow mine. I'll agree that G is probably the 5 Cylon. I also like what is being said about the "final 5" being different and possibly even being the creators. I have been speculating that there is a 6th. There are 7 known and 5 unknown which match up to the 12 colonies. However, Earth being the 13th "lost colony" has no representative. I have long suspected Baltar of being a supreme and different Cylon. He is the 13th Cylon. I've been thinking about this because of his "visitors" (The 6 and himself) in his own mind. And the beginning credits show him hiding behind the 6 during the attack. I think Balter is the master creator of the Cylons and that his old self and the 6 were BOTH downloaded into his current body.

The biggest problem I have with the Hexdrix attuned skinjobs is that, barring some major change in cannon, Colonel Tigh is simply too old to be a Cylon. He fought in the first Kobol/Cylon war. Ostensibly, this is long before the skinjobs were ever created.

Not speculating but speaking on how I would resolve this difficulty if I were one of the writers, I would combine the Cylon creation stories from the two different series and say that the skinjobs, or something like them, were originally created by a different intelligent race rather than evolving from the toasters. Later on they allied with or even bonded with the Cylons created by man.

I don't really see it happening that way, though.

I vote for Lee Adama.

The reason? Back in season 1, right before Roslin blew Leoben out an airlock, he whispered what I felt were very important words:

"Adama is a cylon."

Since I've yet to see anything about Leoben that indicates that a) he tells the truth (he does not), or more importantly b) he doesn't lie (has he DIRECTLY lied? Usually he just twists his meanings something fierce - he lied about KC being Kara's biological mother, but didn't Kara become, in effect, KC's mother while incarcerated?), I'm thinking that Leoben didn't tell the truth, but he didn't lie either. Now, we currently know that even Leoben has no idea who the Final 5 are, but with Fate being such a fickle creature, what if, by gum, he made a guess to shake up President Stands-With-a-Fist and lo and behold, he was actually RIGHT?

Sounds like Ron Moore storytelling to me.
