Its funny, I read your last couple blog posts a day before I started reading news about the mars pheonix mission, and when I read about that on cnn.com, I imidiatly thought of your post.
Great blog and fascinating information. Let's hope with sites like this one we keep the interest in science and space exploration growing and convince the U.S. goverment to spend more on NASA. GO PHEONIX!!

Maybe it was a global holiday on Mars & so their Air Defence Units were on vacation?
They're usually pretty good at shooting down our landers before they hit the deck [laughs]
